Derby Washtub Bass Company
Now you can own a real acoustic bass for a fraction of the cost of an upright bass. These basses are real musical instruments capable of producing real musical notes.
The tripod-mounted neck (or pole) is suspended above the vibrating surface of the tub. Notes are played by moving the fingers up and down the neck. A bass guitar tuning peg at the top of the neck provides easy tuning. Notes are easier to find than on a loose-pole tub bass.
Each bass features the 'Easy Traveler' neck, which separates into two pieces for easy transport.
The washtub bass is available in two models:
The Standard model (with resonator) consists of a washtub resting on a plywood platform containing a formica disc, which acts as a resonator that vibrates in harmony with the tub surface. This produces a deeper, richer tone than the loose-pole bass.
The Economy model (without resonator) contains all of the features of the STANDARD MODEL, but the plywood platform is replaced by three tubular legs.
These instruments are suitable for all types of music including Folk, Bluegrass, Country, Jazz, Cajun, R&B, Blues, Texas Swing, Dixieland, Ragtime, Spiritual, and more.
